Tanzanite

Hailing from the beautiful country of Tanzania, this gorgeous stone was first discovered in 1967 near Mount Kilimanjaro and named tanzanite by Tiffany & Co. Tanzanite is part of the zoisite family and this particular stone is noted for its trichroism (meaning that it can appear as three different colours depending on its crystal orientation).

Well-recognized for its rich navy blue and deep purple colours, tanzanite is often used in pendants and earrings.

“The circumstances that led to the formation of tanzanite 585 million years ago were so exceptional that the likelihood of finding tanzanite anywhere else on Earth is one in a million.” Source: Tanzanite Foundation.

Tanzanite comes in all shapes and sizes and can be set as a beautiful centre stone for a statement piece or as a harmonious accompaniment to a sibling star gemstone.
